PLS-CADD: AAR Floor Calculation. To implement the AAR floor calculation in PLS-CADD's wire clearances report, we propose updating the target wire settings to cycle through predetermined weather cases. This will identify the coldest weather scenario that meets the required clearance for the source wire under the selected weather conditions. Additionally, the report should evaluate all target wire weather cases to determine the appropriate weather scenario for maintaining proper clearance for the source wire. While this improvement is based on the existing Wire Clearances report, PLS may decide to create an entirely new report.

  • Category: Improvement

  • Background: The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order 881 aims to establish Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AAR) that align with forecasted ambient temperatures for transmission lines. The AAR floor temperature is determined by the coldest permissible temperature for any crossing or underbuilt wire, ensuring that the main transmission line can operate at its maximum operating temperature (MOT) while maintaining safe wire-to-wire clearances.
